Lauren Versel's artistic journey spans decades.
Born in New York, and raised between Los Angeles and Washington, D.C., Lauren was a constant creator from an early age. She earned her BFA in Studio Art, Film and Photography from the University of Maryland, College Park.
Lauren stepped away from visual art, channeling her creative spirit into the theater, film and television industry.
She earned her graduate degree from the American Film Institute in Hollywood, California, and spent over two decades working as a film and television editor, screenwriter, director, and producer before founding her own production company, Lucky Monkey Pictures, which specializes in independent feature films. Lauren also co-founded Lucky Doll Productions and has taught the business of film to Master's candidates in Dramatic Writing at NYU Tisch School of the Arts.
But art has a way of calling its practitioners home.
Lauren's return to painting marks the end of a 40-year hiatus from the gallery world. Her last exhibition was a solo photography show in the Berkshires in 1978, featuring intimate portraits of village life in Senegal, West Africa. Now, decades later, she finds she sees things differently but still loves composition, color, beauty and humor.
Today, Lauren divides her time between New York City and her studio in Garrison, New York. She has a wonderful husband, Bob Bresnan, and two amazing children, Bettina and Dylan Bresnan. She also works in the studio of accomplished artist Martee Levi, whose guidance has been instrumental in her artistic explorations. For Lauren, this return to making art represents a return to the self-discovery of her creative identity that was never truly lost, only temporarily set aside.
